Torch parade of university students

The student unions of the capital region, HYY, TKY, KY, SHS and SAY organise the traditional Independence Day torch parade of university students on Saturday, Dec 6. The organising of parade and distribution of torches begins at 4pm at Väinämöinen field (next to Hietaniemi cemetery). We ask that the participants of the parade dress smart (and warm) and wear the Teekkari cap.

The garlands are laid on the Hero Cross at 4pm. The torch parade leaves at 4.50pm and proceeds through the centre to the public festival at Senate Square which begins approximately at 5.45pm. The programme includes, among other things, speeches by city and student union representatives and choir singing. The occasion ends at 6.15pm. 

The torch parade of university students is a fine occasion and it is absolutely worth participating in. This is a different way to celebrate Independence Day! We hope that plenty of teekkari students also take part this year - you are welcome to join the event!
