Short-term accommodation

If you haven't found an apartment or you can't pick up your keys the day you arrive, you might need accommodation for a couple of days. Here are some solutions listed.

Emergency Accommodation for New Helsinki University of Technology Students

In autumns, the Student Union of Helsinki University of Technology (TKY) provides emergency accommodation for those new students of the university, who have not been able to secure a place to live by the time their studies are starting. The TKY provides emergency accommodation in its guesthouses for the duration of September.

Emergency accommodation is meant to be the last resort for the students actively looking for permanent accommodation. The accommodation contains cooking and washing facilities. Preference is given to students who have applied for accommodation from the TKY.

Emergency accommodation is free of charge. Those using the accommodation, however, are required to pay a € 20 deposit for the key. The deposit will be refunded as the key is returned.

Hostels

There are several hostels that are easy to get to and reasonably priced. If you arrive during the summer, you should definitely book in advance as especially during the weekends the hostels might be full.

• Academica hostel is only open during the summer, but the best option for someone going to Otaniemi, as it is in the city centre and just beside Otaniemi buses terminal. Dormitory beds from about 20 euros.
• Stadion hostel, located in the Olympic Stadion, has prices starting at 13,50€ per night and a quite easy location (walking-distance from city centre).
• Eurohostel at Katajanokka is very near Viking line and Nordic Jet Line ferry terminals. Prices start from about 20 euros per night.
• Omena hotel is a self-service but good quality hotel in the centre of Helsinki. Room for 1-4 people starts from 36 euros but you should book early as the price varies according to the booking situation.
