HALOPEDS - Student Representatives in Administration

The administration of universities follows the so-called principle of tripartition. This means that the following groups are represented in the administration: 1) university professors and associate professors; 2) other lecturers, researchers and other staff members; 3) students.

Halopeds bring forth the voice of students in the dozens different committees of the TKK. The presence of students is important because we are the ones with the experience on educational affairs! During the past years, the halopeds have participated in drafting the new degree structure, commented on student numbers and reminded of the importance of a functioning digital study planning system, among others.

Halopeds are part of three different kinds of committees;

1) Committees on the university level

The Board (TKKH) is the highest decision-making body of our university. It decides on the guidelines for distributing funds, the faculty division of the TKK, founding and discontinuing degree programmes, accepting the guiding principles of the TKK and other corresponding regulations, the annual amount of students who are accepted into the university and their selection criteria. The Board meets approximately seven times per year and three student representatives supervise students’ interests.

Additionally, the TKK has dozens of committees and work groups which handle issues on the university level, such as student selections, internationalisation and the funding of universities.

2) Committees on the faculty level

Faculty Council

Faculties are managed by deans and the highest decision-making body of faculties is the Faculty Council. It handles the contents of the education of degree programmes in faculties, the issues concerning the approval of post-graduate degrees, filling in offices, funding, and other tasks appointed to the Faculty Council. There are at least two student members in the Faculty Council and they are appointed from within the students in that particular faculty.

Education Council

The purpose of the Education Council is to make suggestions for the Faculty Council on the contents of degree programmes, to handle the issues concerning the acceptance of basic degrees, and other tasks appointed to the Education Council. Each faculty has one Education Council for the Bachelor Programmes in that field of education and a separate Education Council for one or several Master’s Programmes. The exception is the common Education Council for the degree programmes of architecture and landscape architecture. There are at least three student members in the Education Council and they are appointed from within the students of each degree programme.

3) Other committees in faculties

Faculties can have other committees which handle, for example, the issues concerning the quality of teaching and internationalisation.

If you have any comments or questions concerning study issues, you can get in contact with the educational sector of the TKY at [email protected]. You can also get in touch with the haloped of your own faculty. You can find their contact information here. However, in most cases, we recommend to get in touch directly with the TKY.
