Sporting Places and Services in Espoo

In addition to the sporting places in Otaniemi, the city of Espoo maintains a wide network of sporting places and offers various sporting services, many of which are available to students for reduced prices.

The numerous sports grounds, swimming halls, gyms and hockey stadiums offer varied sporting opportunities all-year round. In addition to this, Espoo has many kilometres of jogging tracks and permanent control points where you can try orienteering. During winters you can try out the traditional Finnish sports, such as cross-country skiing, skating on ice rinks or winter swimming on the sea or a lake.

Opportunities for outdoor recreation are excellent in Espoo. The city features numerous nature trails and nature areas, where you can easily get to see the Finnish nature. For example the Laajalahti nature trail and natural park are located right next to Otaniemi. The Nuuksio National Park in North-Espoo offers unique opportunities for camping and hiking. The water taxis bring the Espoo archipelago close to you. Hiking maps are available at the service points of the city of Espoo and its sports and exercise office.

In addition to sporting places and outdoor recreation, Espoo provides various exercising courses, for instance guided water exercising and gym courses. There are also many private sporting services in addition to the municipal sporting services. Otaniemi has a riding stable and the nearest paddling centre is situated in Keilaniemi. Tapiola has a bowling alley and a mini-golf course. In winters you can downhill ski and snowboard at Solvalla in North-Espoo and in Serena, which also has a water-park.
