Manners
Academic parties have their own etiquette. There are detailed instructions for various occasions from paying attention to your date to making toasts and planning party seating. Etiquette is not for making parties dry and stiff and for causing confusion with guests not used to etiquette. It is used to create certain party rules, which make parties goes smoothly and fun is had by all. Etiquette means also taking other party goers courteously into account. The manners of a gentleperson and his/her knowledge of academic etiquette are still the characteristics of a true teekkari.
Academic parties are, for instance, formal parties called sitsit where you dress in informal attire and cocktail dresses. For annual balls or other, more solemn occasions you dress in full-length ball gown or evening dress. You can recognize teekkaris in formal dress by the teekkari ribbons they carry with dignity.
