The University of my Life – Photo Competition 2008
The Student Union of Helsinki University of Technology (TKY) and the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) organise a photo competition between May 5 and October 10, 2008. The theme of the competition is “the University of my Life”. The competition is open for all TKK staff, its members and alumni.
TKY has traditionally organised the Teekkari Photo of a Year competition (teekkari = technology student) every second year. The first competition was organised in 2002, which was the 130th TKY and 50th Teekkari village jubilee year. The idea came from a need to preserve good photo material of teekkari life for the future generations. You can find the winners of the 2006 competition here. This year, the competition is organised in cooperation between TKK and TKY, because it celebrates the 100 years of TKK as a university.
The competition has magnificent prizes!
1st prize: A deluxe album by Multiprint’s Multikuva service, 50 pages, max. 1200 photos
2nd prize: Big deluxe album by Multiprint’s Multikuva service, 50 pages, max. 850 photos
3rd prize: Medium-sized deluxe album by Multiprint’s Multikuva service, 50 pages, max. 650 photos
5 memory sticksare raffled between all the participants.
The winners will be announced on November 3, 2008 on TKY and TKK web pages. A photo exhibition at TKK will be composed of the best photos.
The University of my Life photo competition is supported by Multiprint and Redfina.
Photos
The photos sent to the competition can be either colour, or black and white digital photos.
Every photographer can participate with a maximum of three (3) photos.
The photos have to be delivered by October 10, 2008 at the latest with the internet form.
The photo file has to be named with the number of the photo and the photographer’s name (e.g. 1_ASmith.jpg).
Rights to the Photo
The photographer must have rights to the photo and for publishing it. The photographer accounts for the permission of the people in the photo and other holders of the right to publish the photo. The organisers have the right to use the photo without a separate compensation at the University of my Life exhibition and publish the best photos when announcing the winners and the competition. Photos can also be published on organisers’ web pages. Please familiarise yourself with the copyright law.
Jury
The invited Head of Jury is Jussi Aalto from the Helsinki Center of Photography. Other members of Jury include Tuula Lindström (TKK), Matti Kurkela (TKK), Leila Teräsalmi-Sovijärvi (TKK), Paula Partanen (TKY), Hanna Paananen(TKY) and Henri Pihkala (Teekkarikamerat).

Copyright
Copyright issues concerning the competition:
- The photographers preserve the copyright for their photos
- The photographers commit themselves to give the authority to the Student Union to use all the photographs in the competition for their own, non-commercial purposes, without a separate request
- If the Student Union uses the photos, the photographer’s name should be mentioned.
If the photo includes people who are clearly recognisable, a photographer must definitely ensure that they have given permission to use the photo in TKY publications. The Student Union does not ask for their permission and the photographer is responsible for possible complaints.
